How it works

How we work a flexible enquiry

Long-haul leisure routes behave nothing like a domestic shuttle. Fewer departures, longer booking horizons, sharper seasons. The method has to match the market.

1

Give us the range

Where from, where to, and the widest window you could genuinely travel in. A month is better than a fortnight; a season is better still.

2

We map the route

How many times a week it operates, which days, which carriers compete on it, where the seasonal peaks fall, and what the realistic connecting options are.

3

You choose the trade

Two or three options with the cost of each stated honestly — the earlier departure, the longer layover, the week that sits just outside the peak.

How long-haul fares behave

Frequency, Season and Lead Time Decide the Fare

Almost all popular fare advice was written about dense domestic markets with hourly departures. Apply it to a long-haul leisure route and it misleads you. Four things behave differently, and they are the four that matter.

Frequency changes everything

A route with three departures a week has three chances to sell every seat, so the airline manages that inventory far more tightly than a route with eight departures a day. There is less discounting, it appears earlier, and it disappears faster. On thin routes the question is not what day to buy but which of the operating days you can take.

The season is a cliff, not a slope

Long-haul leisure demand is concentrated. Peak weeks price at a different level entirely, and the boundary is often a single weekend rather than a gradual change. Moving a trip by five days can cross that boundary; moving it by five weeks inside the same season frequently achieves nothing.

Lead times are longer

Long-haul inventory is loaded earlier and worked more slowly than short-haul. Waiting for a late drop on a peak-season long-haul route is usually waiting for something that has never happened on that route. Where a route does soften close in — and some genuinely do — we will tell you, because it is a property of the market, not a general rule.

Competition sets the floor

Two carriers fighting over a route produce fares that one carrier with a monopoly never will. When you ask why the same distance costs so differently in two directions, the answer is usually how many airlines want the traffic.

Practical levers

Seven Changes That Move a Long-Haul Fare

Each one has a price of its own. We list both sides, because a saving you regret at the airport is not a saving.

Travel in the shoulder weeks

The weeks either side of the peak. Gains: usually the single biggest move available, with a destination still fully open. Costs: less settled weather, and some seasonal services not yet running.

Take the route's quiet day

On a four-times-weekly service the departures are not priced alike. Gains: real, and available without changing anything else. Costs: your outbound and return days are chosen for you.

Accept one connection

Hub routings exist to fill seats a nonstop cannot. Gains: often substantial on long-haul. Costs: several extra hours and a second opportunity for something to go wrong.

Fly the overnight sector

Gains: overnight long-haul departures are often the softer ones. Costs: you arrive tired, and the first day of the holiday is usually written off.

Start from a different city

A secondary origin airport, or occasionally a nearby major hub. Gains: can price very differently. Costs: ground transport, an extra night before departure, and a longer day.

Build an open-jaw

In to one city, out of another. Gains: removes a backtrack you were paying for. Costs: onward transport you now have to arrange yourself.

Widen the window

Gains: the most reliable of all — more dates means more inventory to compare. Costs: it requires you to genuinely be able to move, which not everybody can.

Trip shapes

What Each Itinerary Shape Trades

We describe savings qualitatively because the real figure depends on your route, your dates and live inventory when we price it. Anyone quoting you a fixed percentage is guessing.

Indicative behaviour on long-haul leisure markets. Every option is priced against live inventory before it is offered.
ShapeWhat it usually gainsWhat it costs
Nonstop round-tripNothing — the baseline, and normally the priciest shapeNothing; fastest and simplest
One-stop round-tripOften the largest routing lever on long-haulSeveral hours each way and a second disruption risk
Overnight departureConsistently among the softer departuresArrival fatigue and a lost first day
Off-peak day of weekReal on thin routes with few weekly frequenciesYour travel days are dictated by the schedule
Shoulder-season travelUsually the single biggest lever availableWeather variability and reduced seasonal services

Reading a Destination's Calendar

Every destination has its own peak

Northern-hemisphere summer, southern-hemisphere summer, a dry season, a monsoon, a diving season, a festival month. These do not line up, and a rule that works for one destination is actively wrong for another. The consultant checks the calendar for where you are going rather than applying a generic pattern.

School holidays outrank weather

Fares spike when families are locked to identical fortnights, and that effect is larger than any weather pattern. If you are free to travel outside term dates, that single freedom is usually worth more than every other lever on this page combined.

Events create invisible spikes

A conference, a religious holiday, a national festival or a major fixture lifts fares into a city for a week in a way that looks inexplicable from outside. When a quote comes back higher than a route normally runs, this is the first thing we check.

Shoulder is a window, not a month

The valuable weeks are often narrower than the guidebooks suggest — sometimes ten days between the crowds leaving and the services closing. Where that window sits this year is exactly the sort of thing worth a phone call.

Who we are

Route Research First, Then a Ticket

SeychellesGetaway.com is an independent online travel agency. All of its digital assets and properties are owned by Affluence Hospitality LLC, and the site is not directly associated with any airline, hotel or car rental company.

Independence is the whole proposition. We hold no carrier quota and earn nothing extra for pushing one airline over another, so a consultant can tell you plainly when the cheaper itinerary is the wrong one for your trip — and when the more expensive one is not worth it either.

Our expert line is open around the clock on +1-877-794-6004. Every quote is priced against live inventory by a person before you are asked for anything.

  • Tickets issue on airline stock with a record locator you can verify with the carrier directly
  • Every quote states base fare, taxes and any service fee before payment is taken
  • No countdown timers, no invented scarcity, no fare shown that we cannot actually sell
  • Published Terms, Privacy, Refund, Cancellation and Service Fee policies linked on every page

How we handle a flexible-window enquiry

  1. You give us a window and tell us what is fixed — a wedding, a school term, a booked hotel.
  2. We map the route — weekly frequencies, operating days, competing carriers and seasonal shape.
  3. We price across the window rather than only the dates you named.
  4. We test alternative shapes — one-stop, overnight, open-jaw and alternative origin airports.
  5. We check the connections for minimum connect time, terminal changes and single-ticket protection.
  6. We compare the all-in cost including the baggage you actually need on a long trip.
  7. We present two or three options with the downside of each stated plainly.
  8. We read back one total for the option you choose, before any card details exist.
  9. The ticket issues on airline stock and the confirmation reaches you with a record locator.
  10. We stay reachable around the clock for schedule changes across a long lead time.
Important information

What We Will Not Claim

  • We do not guarantee the lowest fare in existence. No agency sees every channel at once. We guarantee a live price for your exact trip and an honest account of what it restricts.
  • Fares are dynamic. Inventory changes continuously and cannot be guaranteed until a ticket is issued.
  • Separate tickets are not protected. If the first flight is late, the second airline owes you nothing. We will price this shape when it wins and always explain the exposure.
  • Self-connections need generous margins. Two check-ins, often no through-baggage. Allow far more than the legal minimum or do not attempt it.
  • Alternative airports carry a ground cost. We count the transfer time and expense before describing one as cheaper.
  • Seasonal patterns are guidance, not guarantees. Event calendars and school terms override them regularly.
  • Carrier conditions of carriage govern travel. Seychelles Getaway does not operate flights and cannot vary an airline's rules.
  • Airline names are used for identification only. They imply no partnership, sponsorship or endorsement.

How we write these pages: everything here describes general airline practice and our own procedure. You will not find a headline price on this site, because a fare only becomes real when a consultant prices your dates against live inventory. Where this page and your ticket disagree, your fare rule and the operating airline's conditions of carriage decide.

FAQ

Cheap Flights: Timing and Routing Questions

How far in advance should I book a long-haul flight?

Earlier than you would for a short domestic hop, because long-haul inventory is loaded sooner and worked more slowly. The right answer still depends on the route and the season, and we would rather tell you where your specific market usually sits than repeat a number from an article.

Do fares really drop at the last minute?

On busy leisure routes with unsold seats, occasionally. On peak-season long-haul, almost never — those are precisely the weeks an airline expects to sell at the top of its range. Waiting is a gamble whose odds depend entirely on the route.

Does it matter which day of the week I fly?

On a route with only three or four departures a week, enormously. The operating days are not priced alike, and choosing the quiet one is often the easiest saving available to you.

Will clearing cookies or using private browsing get me a lower fare?

No. Fares move because airline inventory moves. If a price looks different on a second search, the booking class you saw has usually sold out or repriced.

Is one connection worth it on a long-haul trip?

Frequently, yes — hub routings are how airlines fill seats a nonstop cannot. What matters is the quality of the connection: enough time, ideally the same terminal, and both flights on a single ticket.

How much connection time is enough?

More than the legal minimum, particularly where you change terminals, re-clear security or move between international and domestic. On a single ticket the airline rebooks you if you misconnect; on two tickets you are on your own.

What is shoulder season and when is it?

The weeks either side of a destination's peak, when demand has fallen but the place is still fully open. When it falls varies by destination and by year, which is exactly why it is worth asking rather than assuming.

Are overnight flights cheaper?

Often softer, not automatically cheaper. On routes where the overnight is the convenient option for business travellers it can price above a daytime departure. We check rather than assume.

Should I book two one-way tickets instead of a return?

On some markets it prices better. The risk is that two tickets are not protected against each other, so a delay on the first leaves you with no claim on the second. We will quote it when it genuinely wins and explain the exposure first.

Why is the same route more expensive in one direction?

Usually competition and demand rather than distance. Two airlines fighting over a market produce fares a single carrier with a monopoly never has to offer.

Do school holidays really affect long-haul fares?

More than weather does. When millions of families are locked to identical fortnights, fares reflect it. Travelling a week outside term dates is often the single most valuable change available.

Can flying from a different airport save money?

Sometimes. We count the ground transport, the parking and the extra hours before recommending it, because an alternative airport that costs you a hotel night is not cheaper.

What is an open-jaw and when does it help?

Flying into one city and out of another. It helps when your trip already moves on the ground, because it removes a return leg you were paying for and not using.

Does it cost anything to have you research options?

No. Enquiring is free. Where a service fee applies to a booking, it is included in the total you hear before you pay anything.

Can I book now and change the dates later?

Only if the fare rule allows it, and cheaper fares frequently do not. If flexibility matters more than the headline, tell the consultant and we will price a fare family that genuinely supports a change.

How do I get the most out of the call?

Tell us what is genuinely fixed and what is not. A consultant who knows you could leave three days earlier, or fly home from a different city, has far more to work with than one who only has two dates.
